Abstract :
Microparticles of theophylline were prepared using chitosan as polymer and tripolyphosphate (TPP) as cross-linker by orifice-ionic gelation method. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cross-linker concentration on physical characteristic, entrapment efficiency and drug release profile. The result showed that the size of microparticles became larger as TPP amount increased. Morphology of microparticles had spherical or almost spherical shape. Entrapment efficiency of microparticles was 48.12 % - 52. 48 %. Whereas released profile of theophylline from microparticles with 12. 5 % TPP showed the most retarded release
